Sarcoma Foundation NZ

Whatever your journey, we’re here for you.

Haere Mai and Welcome to The Sarcoma Foundation NZ

The Sarcoma Foundation is a charity set up to support patients and whānau – families dealing with a diagnosis of sarcoma. Our aim is to provide helpful information that patients and their loved ones need at a very difficult time, and to be there throughout the cancer journey.

We also aim to advocate for improved sarcoma services in Aotearoa – New Zealand and to encourage research and collaboration into this rare condition. Raising awareness will help people be diagnosed early and improve outcomes in sarcoma and other bone and soft tissue tumours.

Walk with a community that cares, connects, and supports you every step of the way. From clinical information to emotional support, we’re here to provide encouragement, solidarity, and the answers you need

He waka eke noa – we’re all in this together.

Cam Suafoa and his partner Brittany Hastings-Kutty

Cam Suafoa – Ambassador for The Sarcoma Foundation NZ

After being diagnosed with a high-grade sarcoma in his back, Blues Rugby forward player Cam Suafoa went through his own cancer journey and now serves as an ambassador for The Sarcoma Foundation NZ.

Cam’s role holds deep personal significance. “One of my best mates, Teina, passed away from leukaemia when we were 17,” Cam shares. “That was definitely something that’s always been on my mind.” His survival story aims to promote awareness and encourage others to take health concerns seriously. “If I could just promote being smarter – or not smarter, just being more aware of your body and who you can go talk to.”

Cam’s journey and his role as an ambassador are about more than just rugby. It’s about using his platform to give back, raise awareness and support others. “It’s definitely a privilege,” he says. “Not only to give back to, you know, Andy who helped so much and helped make this journey not so daunting.”

Cam has now completed his treatment and was declared cancer-free. Reflecting on his journey, he says, “The experience changed me. It taught me the importance of life, early detection, and the power of support. I want to give back and help others understand they’re not alone. Together, we can fight this disease.”

Cam’s story is a testament to resilience and hope. He encourages everyone to stay vigilant about their health. “If my story can inspire just one person to get checked, then it’s worth it. Early detection saves lives.”

We are proud to have Cam Suafoa as an ambassador for the Sarcoma Foundation NZ. His journey embodies the spirit of our mission. Together, we can work towards a future where no one has to face sarcoma alone. He waka eke noa – We’re in this together.

What patients are saying

“We couldn’t have asked for a better team. It’s just, you know, Mandy and Simone are just amazing. And then you’ve got the two Andy’s and Kelly, the banter, the care that they provided was just amazing. We can’t fault anything. Yeah, we’re just very grateful for everything they’ve done.”
